Shondaland caught up with Camryn Garrett to discuss her new novel, the #MeToo movement, filmmaking, and more. Off the Record is a story about courage and a tribute to people who have experienced sexual assault, and a reminder that everyone deserves support in finding their voice. Yet, as Josie falls deeper into the Hollywood scene, she’s faced with the not always easy choice to do the right thing. Josie is overwhelmed with the concept of trying to take down one of the most powerful men in the business, especially when she recognizes that we all live in a world where young Black women are never the first to be believed or heard. Through her work, Josie meets several actresses who confide in her that they have suffered sexual abuse and harassment from a powerful Hollywood icon. While Josie worked hard for this opportunity and deserves it, nothing prepares her for what she inadvertently finds as she develops and reports her story.
